Take better pictures of your events and members!

Not sure why your photos don't come out right? Does your group have a shortage of great photos to share with donors (including MRG Foundation)? Interested in our photo contest but not sure that your group will have great photos of your work? This is the workshop for you!

Bobby Fouther, noted artist and community educator, will lead a 90-minute telephone/web-based workshop on how to take photos that convey the power of your work. He'll cover the basics of how to compose a great photo, then we'll break into two groups to go deeper into the steps to take before and after you take pictures.

During the call, Bobby will cover:

  • What story are you trying to tell with your picture?
  • How can you frame the photo for maximum impact?
  • What should you focus on when photographing events with a speaker? How about when taking photos at a demonstration?

We'll look together at examples of great photos we've gotten from groups, and talk about what makes those photos effective in telling a story or conveying the energy of an event. The second half of the workshop will be hands-on, as we break into small groups to go over:

Group One: Setting your camera correctly before you even start: setting the right file size, ideal camera settings for indoor versus outdoor pictures.

Group Two: Software options for PCs and Macs to deal with photos after your take them. Websites for sharing photos.

You have to let us know which small group you plan to attend. If your group sends more than one person, you can split up so that each person can attend one of these sessions.

This workshop is free to any McKenzie River Gathering Foundation grantee from the last two years. But space is limited, so you must register by November 16, 2010. Register each individual using this form.
